Glossary Glossary of terms used in Assessment reporting.

TermDefinition
School YearA one-year period spanning two calendar years and referred to conventionally by the name of the latter of the two. School year 2002 spans calendar years 2001 and 2002.
DisaggregationThe group the data includes (example: gender).
SubgroupThe subgroup the date includes (example: if the disaggregation is gender, the subgroups would be M and F).
County NumberA number corresponding to the place of a county in an alphabetical list. Not the license plate number.
System NumberA number used by OPI in its database to refer to a school system and published in the Directory of Montana Schools.
System NameThe name of the administrative system in which a district and/or school (s) reside.
District NumberA number used by OPI in its database to refer to a fiscal district in which a school or schools reside and published in the Directory of Montana Schools.
District NameThe name of the fiscal district in which a school or schools reside.
School NumberA number used by OPI in its database to refer to a school and published in the Directory of Montana Schools.
School NameThe name of a school.
GradeThe specific grade for which data is requested: 4, 8, or 11.
SubjectThe specific subject for which data is requested: Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, or Science.
Tested CountThe number of students tested for the results requested.
NOTE:The term stanine used in the proficiency columns is defined as a number from 1 (low) to 9 (high) dividing a group of student scores into convenient blocks of data for comparing overall performance.
Novice CountThe number of students tested in the grouping for which results are requested whose scores correspond to Stanines 1 through 3.
Nearing Proficient CountThe number of students tested in the grouping for which results are requested whose scores correspond to Stanine 4.
Proficient CountThe number of students tested in the grouping for which results are requested whose scores correspond to Stanines 5 through 7.
Advanced CountThe number of students tested in the grouping for which results are requested whose scores correspond to Stanines 8 and 9.
Novice PercentA ratio of the Novice Count to the Tested Count, expressed as a percent.
Nearing Proficient PercentA ratio of the Nearing Proficiency Count to the Tested Count, expressed as a percent.
